Our quaint seaside village of Sandwich is the perfect place to stay on Cape Cod. A little more peaceful. A little less congested. Sandwich, one of the oldest towns in the United States, was settled by European immigrants nearly 150 years before the American Revolution. To learn about the town's history, visit the Hoxie House, the oldest house on the cape, built in 1675. A working restoration of the Dexter Grist Mill is open with tours to the public.
In the 19th century, Sandwich Village was a bustling industrial town with factories that produced tacks (Isaiah Jones' factory), cards, shoes, and glass. In 1825 Deming Jarves established the Boston and Sandwich Glass Company. The Sandwich Glass Museum displays remnants of the exquisite workmanship of European colorists and craftsman brought to work here. |
